Every year, one of the ITER Members hosts the ITER International School (IIS), providing an opportunity for young scientists and engineers to learn from leading experts in a particular topical area of importance to ITER and other burning plasma efforts. This year’s 14th IIS, held June 30-July 4 at Aix-Marseille University in France, offered a program on Integrated modelling of magnetic fusion plasmas, a tour of the ITER site, and opportunities for the next generation of international fusion researchers to interact. Among the participants were a group of 16 students who were awarded scholarships through the USBPO: David Arnold (Columbia University), Corey DeChant (Idaho National Laboratory), Jon Drobny (TAE), Harrison Eggers (TAE), Jack Gabriel (William & Mary), Joe Hall (MIT), Calder Haubrich (Colorado), Greta Hibbard (MIT), Andrew Irvin (Tennessee), Laura Jian (TAE), Tyler Mark (Florida), Kassia Schraufnagel (Wisconsin), Jacob Shin (Wisconsin), Tate Taczak (Tennessee), Tim Tierney (Wisconsin), and Austin Welsh (Tennessee). They join almost 100 previous USBPO scholarship winners, not including the participants at the 2010 (Austin) and 2022 (San Diego) schools organized by the USBPO.

The school’s location alternates between Aix-en-Provence and one of the other ITER Members. Although the date, location, and topic of next year’s school has not yet been announced, we anticipate once again sending a group of US students. Watch the USBPO website and News mailing list for an announcement.
